by David Link March 24, 2017

Ammo costs are a never-satisfied, ever-consuming, budget line item that never really goes away. Ammunition expenses are always going to be there (and spare magazines too, but that’s another story). It stands to reason that you would want to be wise with your cash when buying ammo. The cheaper, the better… right? We all know that you get what you pay for. And we also know the discount blasting pack of bullets performs against “match” ammunition just as the price tag suggests it should.

How To Mount An Airgun Scope

by David Link March 10, 2017

Air rifles provide the perfect platform for beginners to learn basic marksmanship skills, but they are equally serious, highly competitive rifles that fit well in both hunting and precision target shooting pursuits. Whether you’re a beginner or an air rifle pro, airgun scope mounting is a vital portion of any new or existing air rifle setup. Your air rifle may have came with a scope in the box or you may have purchased one separately. Either way the first order of business is to mount the air rifle scope.

Scouting Turkeys

by David Link March 09, 2017

It is interesting how dedicated hunters spend time afield searching for the right locations tend to scout more for deer and elk than they do for turkeys. I have spoken with several dedicated turkey hunters who believe the reason people don’t scout for turkeys aggressively is because of the vocal nature of the hunt.

A rifle that zeroes, adjusts sights, and fires itself? What sorcery this be? No sorcery here, just a very creative application and careful integration of many existing technologies. Software computing ballistics has been with us for years and available on palm-sized devices for over a decade.

Guide to Roadside Wildlife for Watchers & Photographers

by David Link March 01, 2017

I’m often asked about my wildlife photography, particularly how to get close enough to wild animals to take decent quality photo images. While good stalking skills out in the field are an important asset in this pursuit, truth be told, many of my best wildlife photos are taken from the somewhat concealed comfort of my truck.

by David Link February 22, 2017

Finally, in June of 2016, Heckler Koch decided to release the long awaited “unicorn” to the US market with a few minor adjustments to allow importation and dubbed it the SP5K pistol. The Right Firearms Training For A Woman

by Alex Barrington February 20, 2017

Take a class before you purchase a firearm, just as you would get a driver’s license before the car or a contractor’s license before you build.  With the knowledge gained by firearms training, you’re able to select what is best for you.  This is not always the case with women who receive the firearm as a gift.

The Beretta M9A3

by David Link February 15, 2017

Shortly after, reports circulated that the M9A3 had been rejected by the Army, seemingly out of hand. The House of Representatives released H.R. 1735, Committee On Armed Services in May 2015. Concerning the Modular Handgun System, the House budget contained $5.4 millions to procure 7,106 MHS-approved pistols. In January 2017, it was announced that a version of the SIG Sauer P320 will be replacing the M9 as the standard issue sidearm.

Unconventional Shooting Positions

by David Link February 13, 2017

Hunters often find themselves dealing with varied terrain and wrestling through thick brush that makes delivering an accurate, single-and-humane shot a challenge. Yet, many of us restrict our practice to a comfortably seated bench with the rifle anchored solidly in a rest or on sandbags, commodities never seen on a remote hunt. It’s a mistake that can cost you the trophy of a lifetime—I know.

Helping Wildlife Through the Winter

by David Link February 09, 2017

Each year the rigors of the fall rut take their toll on any self-respecting buck. Sadly Mother Nature’s cruel timing of winter also doesn’t help either. When the bitter winds and piling snow start whipping in, especially right after these animals have just been through an ultra-marathon breeding season, many of them become even more stressed. The exhaustion of the rut, the lack of available food and the cold weather all combine to kill a lot of deer each year.
