Otis Defender .38cal/ 9mm Cleaning Kit Review

Otis Defender .38cal/ 9mm Cleaning Kit Review

August 10, 2018

Of course, several follow up purchases come shortly after you get that new pistol. I quickly added snap caps, FMJ training rounds, hollow point defense rounds, and spare magazines (no joke for H&K VP9 platforms) among other things. I also wanted to start fresh with a quality cleaning kit, and immediately I thought of Otis Technology.

Hunting Southern Quail

Hunting Southern Quail

August 06, 2018

Someone once said: “You are known by the company you keep.” And in the world of the bobwhite, this could not be truer. The company of fine guns and fine companions make the quail hunt. Whether you are shooting a Greener or Parker double, a Browning Semi-auto or a Remington pump gun, Mr. Bob does not care what you throw at him. He has the innate ability to evade shot patterns like a prom queen evades suitors.

EDC (Every Day Carry): What It’s About

EDC (Every Day Carry): What It’s About

July 27, 2018

Every day carry, or EDC, can be defined as the items you carry on your person daily. This could be anything from your car keys to your wallet, cell phone, etc. For some, this is all they need; however, many of us choose to carry items to ensure we are ready at a moment’s notice. The trick to EDC is that there are no set rules or requirements for what this should include. It is entirely your decision.

Williams Gun Sight Glock 42/43 Sights Review

Williams Gun Sight Glock 42/43 Sights Review

July 26, 2018

Recently, I had the opportunity to purchase a new Glock model 43 9mm pistol with a factory installed Crimson Trace laser unit. Unfortunately, despite the great price and features, it did arrive with the factory white plastic sights. I quickly researched my options since the model 42 / 43 were still relatively new and on a different size platform than other model Glocks. That's when I learned about a business making top notch fiber optic sights called the Williams Gun Sight Company.

Streamlight ProTac 2L-X Flashlight Review

Streamlight ProTac 2L-X Flashlight Review

July 19, 2018

I must admit, I am partial to Streamlight from being raised with a police officer in the house and this being one of his primary components on his duty belt.  I carried this light for three years and never once had any issues with it, which lead me to believe that I would never retire this. I was mistaken when I was scanning the selection and found the Streamlight ProTac 2L-X, which made a significant difference.

RAMCAT Broadheads – The Name Says It All

RAMCAT Broadheads – The Name Says It All

July 16, 2018

Much like the chicken & egg conundrum, I’m not sure which came first, the broadhead or its name. What I am sure about is the original RAMCAT broadhead does live up to its self-descriptive name and slogan – it “Hits like a Ram, Cuts like a Cat.” This broadhead is also one of the most accurate I have used. With performance features like these, all the bowhunter needs to do is put his/her RAMCAT tipped arrow on target for a quick kill and short recovery.

It's called Hidden Agenda from Galco, and it's an alternative for women and men that must dress professionally for work and may not choose to carry a briefcase or wear a concealed pistol on their person.

Keys To Gunsmith Shop Organization - Solutions

July 06, 2018

Pre-job planning is a method in which you evaluate a job and determine what gunsmithing tools, supplies, and processes you will need to complete the job. If I am going to disassemble a gun for cleaning, I gather the tools the specific gun requires and have them readily available.

Zeiss Conquest HD vs. Zeiss Terra ED 10x42 Binoculars

Zeiss Conquest HD vs. Zeiss Terra ED 10x42 Binoculars

June 25, 2018

In almost any side-by-side comparison there will be some subjectiveness and personal preference, and this is particularly true with binoculars that are evaluated through human eye. And, while some performance characteristics like field-of-view can actually be measured, others like clarity and comfort cannot. Thus, this review of the Zeiss Conquest HD 10x42 and Zeiss Terra ED 10x42 binoculars will compare features and performance in terms of value, with lesser emphasis on which is the better optic.

SIG Sauer SP2022: The Double Action Friendly Solution

June 08, 2018

The SIG Sauer SP2022 is impressive.  When I picked it up, it immediately fit my hand like a glove. The SP2022 has a width of 1.40” and the backstrap comfortably fit in the webbing of my hand and still permitted me to easily reach and pull the trigger with my trigger finger.  The DA requires 10 lbs. of pressure and 4.4 lbs. for SA.

Leupold VX-Freedom 3-9x40mm Review

June 04, 2018

The Leupold VX-Freedom line is priced on the lower end of the market, and address all major shooting styles and disciplines. And even though the feature sets are simplified compared to “nicer” Leupold optics, the VX-Freedom is still covered under Leupold’s famous warranty. Rifle Iron Sights vs. Red Dots

Rifle Iron Sights vs. Red Dots

May 24, 2018

Whether you are building your first rifle or a true beginner, you may notice others around you are either sporting a red dot atop their rifle or strictly running iron sights. Many older generation shooters may prefer iron sights, either because this was what they trained with in the military or their first rifles only had iron sights. On the other side of the equation, many newer shooters have decided to make the switch to a red dot sight or are even running both.

Steiner H4Xi 3-12×56 Review

Steiner H4Xi 3-12×56 Review

May 21, 2018

So when the Steiner H4Xi 3-13×56 came across my workbench, the first thing that jumped out was… well, nothing. The format is dead-simple, even traditional. While it doesn’t offer anything really fun or new, it does have some nuanced “under the hood” features that make it an excellent choice for the serious hunter. It’s just a simple, well-executed hunting scope, through-and-through.
